Rest and Shine in Heaven!!

At the Resource Center for Women and Girls (RCWG) we aim to reach out to girls living in rural areas throughout the country.

Since the onset of our programme in 2007, we have reached over 2500 girls directly and indirectly.  The girls we target would otherwise not have access to the quality, diverse and feminist skills and knowledge that our programme offers. We are keen on reaching more girls and extending the “scope” we have to date.

During the last 10 years, we have made systematic efforts to reach adolescent girls in communities further afield from Nairobi and the environs. As entry points, we have liaised with schools and community leaders to introduce both us and our programme to various communities, including churches, chamas and of course our Alumni network. To this effect, we officially launched an outpost project in Samburu - Wamba. The idea is to create a safe space for alumni, beneficiaries and girls in this community to create a sisterhood and solidarity, to share, strategize and support each other.

Our mentoring camps would not be successful without the support and collaboration of parents. Not only do we understand the importance of the role of parents, we also want to tap into them as a resource. It is with this additional support that we can ascertain a measure of sustainability for our alumnae.

This year, beneficiary parents from 2 different groups attended a convening that sought to identify best practices in promoting positive cycles and support provision for the beneficiaries both at the camp retreats and in their respective homes.

The Resource Center for Women and Girls (RCWG) is a non-governmental organisation that works with young women and girls from rural and rural-urban areas of Kenya. Capture3Staff and supporters of The MATCH Fund first met the women and girls of the RCWG in Kenya last year. Here's what one staff member said about the experience: "From the minute I walked in, I knew this wasn't just any women's resource center. There was the goosebump factor right away. Their work is transformational for girls in Machakos." We look forward to sharing RCWG's updates with you throughout the year.
